Quality Management Program
The quality assurance program adopted by the facility operators complies with the regulations established under the Independent Health Facilities Act (O. Reg. 57/92) which are administered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO – Sleep Medicine Clinical Practice Parameters & Facility Standards).
Quality Advisor & Advisory Committee
The quality advisor is a physician, acting as chair of the advisory committee, serving to advise the facility operator(s) on the quality of services and standards provided by the facility (O. Reg. 57/92, s.1).
The advisory committee consists of representatives from each health care profession who provide health services in or in conjunction with the facility. Representatives include members of the medical profession (internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, and sleep medicine), and other health care professionals including, but not limited to, a clinical psychologist, registered nurse, registered respiratory therapist, and registered/registry-eligible sleep technologist (O. Reg 57/92, s.2).
Advisory committee meetings are held on a regular basis and adhere to the quality management program goals as established by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO – Sleep Medicine Clinical Practice Parameters & Facility Standards, ch.5).
The Advisory Committee reviews performance of the sleep laboratory based upon the information collected through the quality management program.
The committee evaluates the effectiveness of the current quality management program with respect to informing referring physicians as to the appropriate use of sleep studies, providing safe, reliable testing, including efficient and accurate interpreted reports to referring physicians.
It also amends administrative and clinical policy and procedures as required including those governing the quality management program in order to continuously improve standards for services delivered in the sleep laboratory.
