There is no special preparation needed. For example, you should eat your usual evening meal before coming for the test. Be sure you have the phone number of the sleep lab so you can call them if you have any questions. And arrive on time.

Wait Times for Testing?

The Bluewater Sleep Disorder Clinic is able to accomodate sleep studies within 2 to 3 weeks of receiving the referral from your physician.  More importantly, you will be seen by one of our sleep physicians in consultation 2-3 weeks following the completion of your sleep study.

 

Scheduling a Sleep Study

In order to schedule an appointment for a sleep study or consultation with a sleep physician, we must receive a referral from your physician or nurse practitioner.

Once we receive the referral form, you will be contacted by our office to schedule an appointment for your sleep study. Our lab operates from Monday to Friday nights and every effort will be made to schedule an appointment that is convenient for you. Our staff will contact you over the telephone to book your appointment and then we will send you an information package prior to your appointment by mail or email to further answers your questions prior to your appointment.

The Bluewater Sleep Disorder Clinic is a two floor facility. At the time of booking, please let your staff know if you are unable to climb stairs and we will ensure that we reserve a room on the main floor for you.

Cancellation of Sleep Study

Once your appointment is scheduled, a private sleep study room will be reserved for you on the date of your study and a sleep technologist will be assigned to your care. It is important that you attend your appointment at the scheduled time.

We understand that from time to time, unavoidable situation arise that may cause you to reschedule your appointment. Please ensure that you contact us a minimum of 48 hours prior to your appointment if you need to reschedule to avoid any charges for missed appointments.

If you cancel with less that 48 hours notice, or you do not show up for your appointment, a fee of $250.00 will be billed to you and you will be personally responsible for that fee.

Cancellation of Consultation Appointment with a Sleep Physician

You will be booked for an appointment to be seen by the sleep physician. It is important that you attend this appointment to review the results of your sleep study and discuss a treatment plan with your sleep specialist. Please ensure that you contact us a minimum of 48 hours prior to your appointment if you need to reschedule to avoid any missed appointment fees. If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice, or if you do not show up for you appointment, a fee of $50.00 will be charged. This fee is not covered by OHIP and you will be personally responsible for that fee.

Do Not Cancel Your Test If Possible

Sleep disorders can be serious. Your doctor requires the results to treat your sleep problem. These tests are costly in time and expertise. We require at least 48 hours notification, or they will charge you for missed appointments.

Make sure your question have been answered and you have directions to the sleep lab. Our receptionist leaves at 4:30pm each afternoon and the telephone will not be answered until the next day.

In order to obtain the best results, electrodes need to be placed on a clean scalp. Please ensure that your hair is clean and free of hair oils or gels on the day of your test.

You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire before and after your sleep study on how you are feeling and how you slept.
